Layered Security and Staff Access

Security is the first item on the agenda in Istanbul villas; the second is the subject most projects skip — staff access. A villa is visited by cleaners, a gardener, pool maintenance, technical services and occasionally couriers. Handing all of them the same key, or requiring someone to be home each time, is not sustainable. In a correct setup each person gets their own access identity: the gardener can open only the garden gate, only on Tuesdays, only during daylight hours. The system logs who entered and when. This is a management question before it is a security question, and in large villas it becomes the most-used function of the whole installation.

While the house is empty, lighting produces an irregular occupied-looking scenario; climate drops to a protective minimum without abandoning humidity control; irrigation adjusts itself to the weather; a flood sensor that detects a leak closes the main valve and then calls you. The distinction is critical: a poor system sends you a notification, a good system intervenes first and reports second. A 'water leak detected' alert at midnight is useless on its own if you are in London.

Istanbul's villa districts produce two different challenges. Vertical Circulation and Zone Management in Multi-Storey Villas

Istanbul villas usually spread across three or four levels on sloping ground, and some include a lift. That forces automation to be thought of floor by floor. Climate in an unused floor should step back while humidity control continues; stair and corridor lighting should come on automatically at a low level at night; where a lift exists, call and floor-lock should be linked to the security system. In practice the detail that makes the biggest difference is this: being able to see and switch off the entire house from a single screen in the top-floor bedroom. Not having to go down three floors before bed to check whether the basement light was left on is the most tangible benefit of automation in a four-storey house.

Sensor angle, sensitivity zones and object recognition settings are tuned one by one on site; in a properly configured system false alarms fall close to zero.
