Exhibition Stand Design in Ankara

How a Stand Is Measured: Stopping Power, Dwell Time, Qualified Conversations

A good stand is not 'beautiful' but measurably effective. Three metrics decide it: the share of passing visitors who stop, the time they spend at the stand, and how much of that time turns into a qualified conversation. Design targets each separately — visibility from a distance stops people, staging and demo areas extend dwell time, and a well-planned meeting corner converts contact into sales. The first question is not aesthetic: how many qualified conversations do you want to leave this fair with?

Stand Typology and Choosing the Space

Performance is tied directly to the type of space you rent, so design decisions begin before the space contract. An island stand is visible from four sides and delivers the highest impact but is the hardest to manage for circulation; a corner stand strikes the best balance with two frontages; an in-line stand has only one face, so all investment must go into that face and into gaining height. Double-decker stands increase meeting capacity but require structural calculation, approval and a height permit.

Legibility at Distance: the 10 m, 5 m, 1 m Rule

Visitors do not look at your stand; they walk down an aisle. So the message hierarchy is built for three distances. At ten metres only the brand and one strong image should read — text does not register at this range, form and colour do. At five metres what you do must be clear in one sentence. At one metre the product, technical detail and a person to talk to take over. Most stands look cluttered because they never separate these three layers, and end up unreadable at every distance.

Bespoke Joinery or Modular System?

This is the decisive investment question, and the answer depends on how many fairs you attend. Bespoke joinery gives a form entirely specific to the brand and a high level of finish, but is largely rebuilt for every fair. A modular system costs more up front yet is reassembled repeatedly, adapts to different footprints and can be stored. For a brand attending one fair a year, bespoke makes sense; for three or four a year, a modular or hybrid build is almost always cheaper. The calculation must include transport, storage, installation labour and refresh cost — not only fabrication.

Lighting, Electrical Load and Venue Regulations

Exhibition venues run on their own technical rulebooks, and that rulebook draws the boundaries of the design from the start: maximum stand height, how surfaces facing neighbouring stands must be finished, rigging permissions, fire-class material requirements, electrical allocation and the build-up/breakdown schedule. Lighting is the item that makes the most difference and gets neglected most often; without accent light over products and a wash on the brand wall, a stand disappears into the hall's cold general lighting. Calculating electrical allocation alongside the design prevents the 'not enough power' surprise on site.

Visitor Flow and Installation Logistics

The stand must solve four functions at once: welcome (an open frontage that says who you are), staging (product or demo area), meeting (a seated, relatively quiet corner) and back of house (storage, refreshments, staff belongings). If these do not separate, the stand either looks closed and uninviting or becomes too noisy to hold a conversation. On the build side the schedule is unforgiving: most fairs compress installation into one or two days. So the design follows transport dimensions, assembly sequence and the tools and labour needed on site — a detail that will not come together on site is the most expensive design error there is.
